WHAT WE BELIEVE

Jesus taught that the truth you know will make you free.
(John 8:32)

First thoughts:

In a world where the absolutes of God’s revelation through the Bible are being severely challenged we believe that eternal truth always outlasts current theological trends or fads.

Our trust is in the ultimate person of truth the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the savior of the world, and not some set of ‘correct’ beliefs themselves., no matter how well codified or presented. We therefore encourage a life transforming personal encounter with the risen savior Jesus Christ, not some mere mental assent to church doctrine.

Nevertheless, we believe that ‘right’ believing leads to ‘right’ doing, so our goal is to keep growing in an understanding of the unique person, work and teaching of Jesus Christ, God’s son. A consistent, coherent and comprehensive approach to reading, understanding, interpreting and applying Bible truth is thus essential to Christian belief and practice.

God sent Jesus to show His love for all mankind, and Jesus perfectly reveals God as the caring heavenly Father who calls us all into a meaningful saving relationship with Himself. This relationship is based not on some set of religious rules and regulations, but on a personal trust in Jesus who gave His life for ours at the cross in a beautiful exchange.

As a start, we believe the Bible teaches at least the following:

About God and His Word:

God’s Word, the Bible, is inspired and reliable as His revelation to man.
(1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:21)

God created the universe in the beginning.
(Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3)

God is revealed to us in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each distinct and unique in role and personality, yet unified in nature and purpose.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17; Matthew 28:19)

 About Man’s Need:

All mankind is fallen in sin, and incapable of saving himself, so needs a savior.
(Romans 3:23-24)

God’s forgiveness through Christ’s shed blood at the cross has to be received as a gift to avoid an eternal separation from God.
(Romans 6:23)

About God’s Solution:

God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for us so that we can receive eternal life.
(John 3:16)

There is no other name by which we may be saved.
(Acts 4:12)

Those who believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess Him as Lord are saved.
(Romans 10:9-10)

About God’s purposes for the Church:

God has called believers to be His people who worship Him in Spirit and Truth, minister to one another, and reach out with the good news of forgiveness and healing to all mankind.
(1 Peter 2:9; John 4:23; Mark 16:15-20)

To this end, He has given His Holy Spirit to empower all believers for life and witness. The indwelling and baptism of the Holy Spirit is accompanied by supernatural gifts.
(Acts 1:8; 2:4, 38; 4:31; 10:44-46; 19:1-6; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11)

About Water Baptism and Communion:

Water baptism as an ordinance of the Church, is available to and expected of all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation.
(Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:36-39; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12)

Communion (or the Lord’s Table) is commanded by the Lord for believers and practiced in the Church in remembrance of Him till He comes.
(Luke 22:17-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

About Jesus return:

The Lord Jesus Christ will return again to earth bodily.
(1 Corinthians 15:23; Acts 1:9-11)
