The exchange: strength for weakness

The exchange: strength for weakness

When you contrast God’s strength with man’s weakness, you get a glimpse of why God set in motion a series of covenants to redeem and restore us to the former glory He intended for us.

Any covenant involves a ‘principle of exchange’: what’s mine becomes yours and what’s yours is mine. This win / win situation exchanges one party’s weaknesses for the other party’s strengths. The stronger party gets legal opportunity to extend His dominion over the weaker, and the weaker party receives strength and protection from the stronger.

Of course with a covenant between God and man, God has no weakness to exchange, only His strength. What a gift this turns out to be in our human frailties and needs. We receive God’s strengths in exchange for our weaknesses. All this because He loves us and is committed to our well-being in the face of destructive forces. His good overcomes any bad in us. This all took place at the cross.

2 Corinthians 5:21

21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
